Welcome, Travel Nut!
About Me
I am so glad you are visiting. My name is Kathleen. I have been in travel medical imaging since 2021 amidst the COVID pandemic. My journey into the travel healthcare realm has been nothing short of adventurous. Some experiences have been less safe than others. Traveling across country into areas never experienced can be daunting and frustrating as well invigorating and fun. I have lived in campgrounds, rented rooms, and hotels. I have hiked, explored my surroundings, and experienced nightlife and wineries with some really amazing people. My experiences in this environment will be cherished forever.
I remember my first travel assignment out. I started a job in Brandon, Florida trying to play it safe. I figured up all my expenses to be able to stay at an extended stay hotel for three days and then drive home to Georgia to spend the remainder four days of my work week with my family. I still would be making more money traveling than I could make at my regular five day a week local hustle. When I get there, it looks as if people live there and not in a good way. People were roaming around, hanging laundry, and standing out smoking and I don’t think is was tobacco. I had everything I absolutely needed including some insects except for safety and comfort. After the fourth day of uncomfortable surroundings, I knew I could stay in a campground far cheaper than I could live in a hotel weekly. My RV would offer me my bed, my coffee pot, my pillows and all my comfort. I was thrilled inside just to think about it. The thing with travel healthcare is, you never really know what that first week will throw at you. That extra day in a hotel was not part of my plan. That meant I had to spend more money out of my budget. Needless to say, I was not a happy girl. This is when I decided my RV was my solution. I scheduled to have my 2019 bumper pull Mallard transported to the local campground closest to the facility I would be working with. Let me just say, when I got there, it was quite an event. People actually live full time in their campers? To my surprise, some campers even had tarps on them. It was a bit unsafe, however I did experience some really nice people there. To sum up, this is about SAFETY and SANITY. It is super important for a traveling healthcare provider to feel safe in their environment. The job, covid, or any other transmissible disease is scary enough. Take the stress out of the equation. Let’s work together to be safe. I sure wish someone would have told me that the area I lived in for three months was called METHNER before I stayed.
