Location

Ghosthill campground is a quaint little RV park located off of Tuggle Drive in Stone Mountain, Georgia. It is sitting back off the beaten path. When you pull into the campground road “Tuggle Dr”, it is a bit narrow so watch your rig. My bumper pull Mallard is 37 ft and my truck is another 30 ft. So, take a wide turn if you have a long set up like I did. There is a stop sign. So, go through it. GPS will want to make you turn right there. So the campground is nestled back in between some houses and a cemetary is on the back edge. There is a privacy fence to block out the cemetary view. There is a privacy fence all along the edges of the park. There is an office that I rarely see open. I’m not sure if it is used for anything other than package delivery. This is a long term campground only. All the other parks in the area are short term. This RV park is the only one geared toward traveling workers. Susan makes great exceptions for traveling healthcare workers. In fact, I got into a new section of the campground that really wasn’t even ready yet. I arrived and I had to be moved the next day after they finished the new site for me. Is it perfect? No, it isn’t. But I will take that anyday over no place to stay for an assignment I had commited to already. Finding a place short notice was nearly impossible. Stone Mountain, Ga. is a touristy location. It is not the best location as far a safety goes. I am pretty sure I heard gun shots a couple times during my 6 month stay. Regi, Susans son will direct you on where to go safely. Don’t go to memorial drive. Campers are aligned tightly with rock, gravel, and concrete in the old section. It is settled in a circle that is on a hill. The new section has gravel sites with a grass patch on some portions. It is settled at the top of the hill in a tight area in the back of the campground. It is hard to find if you don’t drive to the back portion as it is so tight of a space you will think it is empty. It is all new and mushy as it rains alot. Wear your rubber boots as to not get your shoes dirty with red mushy mud/dirt. However, the new portion is much nicer than the old section. You do get a patch of grass which is important if you are bringing your fur babies.

Cleanliness

Ghosthill campground had trash cans at the front of the campground entry. The area stayed very tidy. I don’t know if I would want to be in the spots next to the dumpster but it was never trashy or overly smelly when I went to go dump my trash off. All the areas of the facility stayed clean. Susan was very particular about what items at your site could be visible like rolled up hoses and propane tanks had to be stored behind your RV. She also would send out a memo to spring clean your RV. No overly dirty RVs were allowed. If you didn’t wash your RV, then she would send Regi to wash it, and send you a bill. She allowed adequate time to perform those duties. She was also very strict about cleaning up after your pets, so bring your poop bags. No complaints here! 🙂

Value

900 dollars a month seems to be pretty steep just to park your RV. Research from the surrounding area show that actually this rate is fairly reasonable since it is a touristy area. This amount included your electriccity, water usage, and sewage. Even though there were no other amenities there, the value outweighed the price tag because there are no other long term campgrounds in the area. In fact, I got lucky to get in. The other area campgrounds only allowed a week or two stays and then you had to move. They were well over this price. So yes! It is a good value.

Amenities

A bathhouse is available. I will have to say this bath house was pretty amazing. I did not utilize it until we had 9 degree weather where all the pipes froze for a couple of days. The bathhouse was clean with plenty of water pressure and it was climate controlled. I was very thankful to have it.

There is no laundry service. As this campground only gears its population to long term traveling workers, I am confused as to why there are no laundty services on site. Personally, my bumper pull did not have a washer/dryer option like most fifth wheels do. So, this was an issue for me. I ordered a portable apartment style washer with a spin dryer and hung my clothes inside my camper to dry. The owners did introduce laundry services that were available at a local laundromat. If you visit Stone Mountain you can see that not all areas are very safe to go to.

There is no pool, dog park, or additional amenities like a game room or a playground.

Service

Susan Wilson’s son, Regi is the support person to contact. He always answered when I called. He would always try to help as quick as he could. So, I would say support was adequate and they always tried to make it a speedy recovery. Construction was abundant during my stay. I can say that I was forewarned about it. So with time, I am sure the asthetics will change.

Conclusion

All in all, my experience with Ghosthill campground was a pleasant one. I could have done with out all the construction during my stay. However, without a transition to a more functional site there would be no growth. So, I consider this growing pains. I do believe a laundromat would defiitely be beneficial to this campground. Better drainage solutions for the sites would be a plus as it was pretty soupy at my site. Again, it was a fresh new site. I personally didn’t have animals or children with me on this assignment. However, most of my neighbors did. This was a huge disadvantage for them as the campground was surfaced with mostly rocks. It was hard on the owners walking their dogs and children had no place to play. Should I ever go to work in the surrounding area of Stone Mountain, Georgia again, I would definitely reach out for a lodging solution.

  1. Hi there,
I just read your review on Ghosthill Campground and let me tell you, it’s a breath of fresh air to find such a detailed and honest review. Your description of the place as a quaint little park tucked away in Stone Mountain, Georgia, paints a clear picture. It’s great to hear that despite the narrow entrance, the park is accessible even for larger rigs like yours. The emphasis on cleanliness, particularly the rules around RV appearance and pet waste management, is encouraging.
However, I couldn’t help but wonder about the absence of laundry facilities, especially for a long-term campground catering to traveling workers. In my past RV experiences, having on-site laundry is a huge convenience. Do you think the campground will consider adding this amenity in the future?
Thanks for sharing your experience, and I look forward to more of your RV campground reviews!
    Best regards and safe travels!

    Best regards,

    • You’re welcome! I believe they are ok with having laundry offsite as the area doesn’t allow anymore acreage to add on. If they were to gain more acreage in the future, maybe it would be a possibility. I will have to follow up with them on their growth. 🙂
